I'll have the greedy portion.

I write fiction at night, am almost always hungry, and am still working on that cure for procrastination... Elephantine is about finding beautiful objects and reporting the daily minutiae.
I love getting email.

Aww, sweet. Cup-a-Cake set from Williams Sonoma. Wish I liked eating cupcakes more since they're fun to make & decorate.
A couple days ago I was at a friend's house and had some scrumptious vegetable soup, and realized I hadn't really spent any time making soup even though it's pretty easy and so good on cold days like these. So, inspired, I made some tonight, probably made enough for the whole week, and the boyfriend made risotto for the other half of the meal. Mmm. And speaking of yummy, during our outing today I picked up The Best American Comics 2007, which I have been eyeing for a while. I'm so excited to get buried in it and see all the different styles and stories.
A couple weeks ago when I was visiting my parent's house, we picked a few grocery bags' worth of apples from the trees in our yard. Despite it just beginning to rain, I remembered the summers ago when I'd be hunting for cherries in the lawn after my dad had shaken them from the trees. We also have pear trees, blackberry bushes, and one semi-unreliable blueberry bush. There used to be other types, too, but the deer came by and had their way.
Anyway, many of the apples are smaller than my fist and are decorated with little brown spots, but they have that perfect quality between crisp and soft, just sweet enough. Via Tastespotting, I found this recipe for easy fruit tarts. They were, as it claims, really easy to make. Mmm, good. The apricot-lemon glaze makes me love it even more. These seem like the perfect thing to serve to company, and I can't wait to try it with other fruits.
